My favorite FCF memory was the first counsel fire after the Big Adventure. The fire felt warmer as friends became family. This is where the term Disciple became real, not only to the world but to one another, to learn from some and to teach others.

After all the 'foo-fa-rah' — there was no wooded area large enough for the overnighter, so they bussed us over to Mohican State Park, near Loudonville, where they found an area to spread us out and bed us down, but first Ray Lambert, built a little fire in a picnic area, for the presentation of the meaning of the FCF Fire logo and the five logs — when a Park Ranger came on the scene — apparently someone reported a fire — and ALMOST THREW US ALL OUT OF THE PARK — Ray explained who we were and what we were doing; after which the Park Ranger made us put out the fire and finally agreed to let us sleep there (as planned) but made someone stay there all night (with the bus to take us back in the morning) to make sure none of us would start any more fires! Good! We just wanted to get some sleep anyway — but we had a light rain during the night, so we did get dampened a bit, but not our spirits! It was a great experience!

1986 Spring Trace
I remember one station was set up with a real deer head and the head/skull was carved out in order to set a bowl in it. In the dark it looked liked real deer brains in the opened head. At this station the members took us one at a time up to the deer. My friend that I went through with was ahead of me. I remember him coming back just shaking his head saying to himself "I can't believe what I just did," thinking he really ate deer brains. I was next and Commander Harry Hunt "Three Feathers" stuck a big wooden spoon into the deer's head and gave the spoon to me to partake of the brains. I half gagged the stuff down, but I was determined not to lose another bead. The next day after the initiation was over "Eagle Heart" informed us that the brains were really cold oatmeal with food coloring. No wonder "Three Feathers" and the rest of guys at the station were laughing so hard at the look on my face while gulping down that big ball of mush.
